glass and glazing...

A fundamental element of bifolding doors is glass. Glass increases the light in your home, gives the impression of space and unrestricted views with a beautiful modern look that appeals to homeowners and designers alike. The options available are amazing but not overwhelming.

As standard we offer 28mm double glazed units with toughened active self cleaning glass. However we are more than happy to offer you the widest range of glazing options available at the best trade prices. In short the glazing within your bi-folding door will determine the warmth of your home in the winter, and could keep the room cool in the summer. As all homes are different and our doors are purchased for different purposes we will not claim one type of glazing is the best solution, however we have hand-picked several options for your consideration:

Planitherm 4 Seasons Glass
Planitherm 4 Seasons is the new concept glazing for year round comfort, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Advantages

  • Thermal insulation: reduces heat loss more effectively than traditional low-E products Solar protection: reflects up to 57% of solar heat gain through conservatory sidewalls and as much as 71% when used in conjunction with SGG BIOCLEAN COOL-LITE ST in the roof
  • Energy efficient: reduced need for heating and cooling protects the environment and saves you money
  • Visual comfort: maximising natural light and reducing glare provides an enhanced level of visual comfort.
  • Neutral appearance: beautiful neutral appearance matched the rest of your glazing

SGG Planitherm Total 1.3
Planitherm 1.3 is a revolutionary, high performance, soft coat low-emissivity (low-E) glass. Double glazed units incorporating Total 1.3 offer significantly better thermal insulation performance compared to traditional hard coated Low-E products, the benefits include:

  • Considerable reductions in heating bills.
  • Reduced condensation on the inner pane.
  • Environmentally friendly given the lower CO2 emissions associated with reduced energy consumption.

SGG Cool Lite ST 150
An absolute must if your doors are South facing. Think of stepping into a greenhouse in the middle of summer, Standard glazing maximises the heat from the sun and can make the temperature in a room quite uncomfortable. Cool-Lite ST150 is a coated glass which prevents this. Cool-Lite ST150 enhances visual comfort by filtering light and offers excellent solar control performance, hence reducing air conditioning costs.

Pilkington K Glass™
replacement windows, low emissivity glass, such as Pilkington K Glass™, is recognised by the Energy Saving Trust as significantly reducing heat loss.

Basically, by using less heat to keep your home warm, less energy needs to be produced – thus lowering the overall levels of greenhouse gases.

Pilkington KGlass™ usually forms the inner pane of a double glazing unit, and has a special ‘low emissivity’ (low E) coating which is a good reflector of long wave radiation (heat). This allows less heat to escape through your windows, because it reflects heat from fires and radiators back into your home. At the same time Pilkington KGlass™ lets the sun’s heat through your window contributing to its energy efficiency. This free heat from the sun is known as passive solar gain and Pilkington KGlass™ offers the UK’s leading performance in this aspect. So whilst offering positive benefits for the environment, this also has great benefits for you.
